I posted a picture on Instagram with Taylor Swift’s quote “People haven’t always been there for me but music always has.” It made me think of all the times music helped me out. It also made me think of when I was in high school jumping on a friend’s bed while listening to Madonna. I was taking a break from studying. During that time music helped me to relax and relieve my stress from studying. Of course, studying for exams is a different situation than having personal or work issues.
When problems get tough, just remember that music can only do so much and it would be better for you to confide and talk about your issues with a person (like a family member, friend, or therapist). Whatever helps you to release stress, gets you to talk and think of ways to resolve your problems, and puts you back in a good mood… I’m all for it.
So all day yesterday I was listening to Taylor Swift’s music (and shuffled up her songs). Yeah! Her music and music in general can really make you feel so many things. Personally I like the upbeat songs to help give me energy and keep me awake while working on the computer (since I don’t drink coffee). Actually singing and dancing while at my desk can sometimes be a distraction but at least I’m happy while working. I also like to listen to various types of music depending on my mood, but yesterday was my Taylor Swift day. 🙂
BENEFITS TO LISTENING TO MUSIC
It’s good to know that there are scientific benefits to listening to music such as:
- “…music helps them focus more clearly on the task at hand and puts them in a better mood for learning” (from Chris Brewer’s Soundtracks for Learning book)
- Helps improve your sleep quality (by listening to classical music)
- Reduces stress and anxiety
So what are you waiting for and turn up the music! 🙂 I’ll leave you with my favorite Taylor Swift video. Yay!
