I binge-watched Mr. Robot (Season 1) on Amazon Prime a couple of days ago and am excited to watch (Season 2) on the USA Network. It’s about a vigilante hacker with a mission to save the world. The techie person in me enjoys watching what the hacker is capable of doing. The scenarios in the show is kind of scary since it’s based on things that can actually happen and some scenarios have already happened.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM WATCHING MR. ROBOT
After watching the show, it definitely made me aware of how people use easy passwords to access their accounts. It’s time for me to upgrade all my passwords again and use randomly generated passwords. It’s a hassle to remember the passwords but that’s the only way to avoid all your accounts from being hacked especially if you use the same passwords for the majority of your accounts.
Watching Mr. Robot can also bring out the paranoia in you. Like you should cover your camera on your computer when you aren’t using it because if a hacker takes control of your computer they can access your camera. Also never take CDs from strangers thinking its a music CD, or pick up a free USB stick on the streets because you don’t know if the USB stick or CD is infected with malware once you insert it in your computer.
I have to admit that the show got kind of dark, but the twists in the plot kept me interested. I like watching the show to see what hackers are capable of doing. I try my best to protect myself and family from what I learn on the show.
