How to protect your wood furniture

Protect your wood furniture with Guardsman Deep Clean and Wood Polish Cream

Keeping a clean house and taking care of your furniture is part of keeping your home life balanced. I always say, “If you take care of your furniture, your furniture takes care of you.” When you take care of your furniture your furniture lasts much longer and you don’t have to constantly buy new furniture every couple of years.

Living with children is always a challenge since they really test your furniture to its limits (with constant spills, scratches, marks, etc on the table). This time around I didn’t notice that my daughter spilled some milk on the table. Since it was underneath the placemat, I didn’t see it. If I caught it earlier, it wouldn’t have been a problem. So now I learned to always take off the placemats after every meal.

Table Before Cleaning and Polishing

If you look at the picture, there are smudge marks on the table that won’t go away. Along with the smudge marks was also a crust of milk remnants that wouldn’t come off with a baby wipe.

  1. Clear off the table and clean it by wiping it down with a soft cloth that has a bit of water on it. I personally use a baby wipe to clean the table after each meal.
  2. Put cleaning gloves on to protect your hands.
  3. Make sure the table is dry and apply Guardsman Deep Clean. Shake the can well. I then spray the foaming liquid onto a clean, soft cloth and wipe it in the direction of the wood grain. If you’re not sure of the wood finish, pre-test in a hidden area. Don’t use if there is a change in color or appearance. This is great to remove dried-on food and beverage spills on a table. Unfortunately dried milk didn’t do well (but that was my fault since I didn’t clean the spilled milk right away). Use the soft cloth to wipe in the direction of the grain until the table looks clean.
  4. I then use Guardsman Clean and Polish (you can also use the spray version of the polish). Shake it well. Apply a small amount onto a clean, soft, cotton cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain. Lightly buff dry with a clean, soft, cotton cloth. Again, if you are unsure of the wood finish, test polish in a hidden area.

Table after using Guardsman Deep Clean and Wood Polish Cream

The table looks nice and clean (except for the milk stain). The milk is no longer on the table but it took off some of the wood finish. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get rid of the milk mark but I attribute it to living with kids. I’m sure I’ll look at my table years down the line when my kids are adults and remember all the “childhood memories” left on the table. Overall I’m happy that I’ve been able to maintain and protect the wood furniture by using Guardsman.

I have a lot of wood furniture in my home and Guardsman keeps it looking like new, clean, and provides UV protection too.
