There is a point in your life when everything may seem to be falling apart, and that was when I had to get away from it all. When I came back from a getaway weekend to spend some time with my siblings, I was able to focus on what was going on at home.
ANALYZE YOUR PROBLEMS
Sometimes it is difficult to know exactly what the problem is when you are constantly doing your “daily grind.” By stepping away (like taking a break for a weekend), it’s easier to assess what is wrong. At home, I was getting stressed out from not having any “me” time. Because it’s summer, my entire day is spent with my kids and doing stuff for them and constantly cleaning the house. I don’t mind that but in the process, I forgot to take care of myself. I was feeling lost.
FINDING A HOBBY THAT YOU CAN LOVE
I typically love learning online, but I think I’m burnt-out on web and computer stuff lately which includes blogging too. I enjoy doing web work but that’s it… it’s work. Doing web work used to be a hobby that eventually became my job. So I had to find another hobby that allows me to be creative and wasn’t on a computer. My parents recommended sewing. I decided to sign up for three sewing classes to see if I would like it. Little did I know that I would LOVE sewing after my first class.
I think that if you can find something that can help you relax and makes you happy, just do it. Go for it! You are never too old to learn how to do something. It’s ok to do something for yourself. Don’t feel guilty about it. I mean it! I repeat, DO NOT FEEL GUILTY. You deserve it!
A SEWING HOBBY
My mom had me buy a basic Singer sewing machine years ago and I never learned how to use it. I finally decided to take sewing lessons and from the first lesson, I was hooked. I was so excited to learn how to create something with my hands. The possibilities are endless especially when it comes to making home decor accessories. I’ve only taken five lessons so far, but I feel like I’ve learned so much.
I’ve also been reading online as well as borrowing books from the library and purchasing some books on Amazon. I’m trying to soak in all the sewing/embroidery information that I need to learn.
I ended up purchasing a combination sewing/embroidery machine after my sewing teacher showed me her sewing/embroidery machine. Sewing makes me happy 🙂 . It’s my new hobby that I’ve been focusing on especially when I feel stressed out or need a break. I’m taking a short hiatus from constantly being on a computer and trying to enjoy my last days of summer with the kids.
CONCLUSION
You have to take care of yourself first before you can take care of everyone else. I recommend finding a hobby that helps you relax and de-stress if you need a break. I’m glad I found a new hobby in sewing. 🙂 Remember that you deserve some “me” time.
What hobby do you enjoy when you need a break?
