Don’t Forget Who You Are

I can’t believe it has been almost three months since my last post (Tips When Going Through Difficult Times) where I mentioned, “when unexpected events happen in your life, blogging ends up taking a back seat in my life since it has the lowest priority.”

I should have made a caveat to that statement. Definitely make it a priority to do things that give you enjoyment even when you are going through a difficult time (even if you think it should be your lowest priority). If you aren’t able to take care of yourself (and enjoy simple pleasures), it makes it even more difficult to take care of everyone in your family.


During my struggles, I happened to lose myself. I stopped blogging, designing, playing the piano, etc. I didn’t realize that it was important for me to continue doing those things. I assumed that I didn’t have the time to waste my energy on stuff I enjoyed and needed to focus my energy on other important things. I definitely wasn’t living a balanced life these past three months.

Once my therapist told me it was necessary to find something that is meaningful to me, I realized just now that I stopped doing things I really enjoyed. During the past three months I thought I was doing what I was supposed to do (based on my priorities), but through it all, I was falling deeper into depression. I was taking care of everyone but myself. I forgot the important rule of how you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. I already know myself and my true passion, but I started questioning myself (who I am, was, etc). I truly felt lost. Right now I feel like I’m slowly getting back on course. I feel more together by starting to do things that I enjoy and expressing myself verbally. I constantly have to remind myself to make time to do things that make me happy (although my list sounds pretty nerdy) πŸ™‚ :

  • Online learning (I love learning the different aspects of digital marketing and new software)
  • Blogging (creating content and graphics)
  • Playing the piano
  • Trying out a new recipe that my kids want to eat
  • Reading self-help books

Everyone’s “things that make me happy” list will vary for each person. Really think about it. Does taking a long, relaxing bath or exercising make you happy?

In order to live a more balanced life and get myself back on the course to happiness while going through difficult struggles, I plan to blog more often and work on the list above. I won’t stress myself out to make sure I blog regularly but will blog when I get a chance. A three-month hiatus is way too long to not blog.
