Restaining the front door of my house was my first introduction to restaining wood. The original door was already 12 years old and it was looking its age (stain coming off, faded, dirty, etc). It was time for a new door or a new project for my husband and I. Of course we chose restaining the front door to bring it back to the 21st century.
We had to remove the door and left a plastic tarp over the door opening of the house while we were working on it in the garage. Like with all staining projects, we had to sand down to the bare wood, stain a dark walnut color, and apply a couple coats of poly urathane. Of course it took two weekends of taking on and off the door which was a big hassle.
I’m happy the way the door came out even if it isn’t perfect. It definitely looks better than before and saved us a lot of money doing the work ourselves.
